(Scraping The Bleeding Wounds of Expat Community In The UAE)
Mukul Anand introduced me to the @BFF Group at the beginning of the year with a talent pool of exceptional entrepreneurs and professionals. As a bidding blogger trying to learn the ropes, I was advised to speak to Charu Shonek & her partner Hansraj Shetty with their in-depth experience and insights into the entertainment and media industry. I met the couple and learnt about their venture Radio Gaga, Middle East’s FIRST “Only online and app Hindi music Station” that’s already making waves in the region. I also learnt that hansraj shetty is an established author and that’s where the trouble began.
He gave me a copy of his book “Pages from the City of Gilt”, and I got sloshed. This book is nothing but trouble because as an expatriate whos been in the UAE for the past 27 years, it talks to you. You would read a chapter and then say to yourself, “Is this guy for real, what he’s writing can’t be true”, but after a few heaving breaths you realize that yes, this is true because you’ve experienced some of it yourself at some time. This book is troublesome as it shakes you to the core and I would warn anyone reading it to take caution as it won’t be a friendly read. The book review is due but I cannot rush it, it’s too deep and sticky. You want to finish reading it and then…
