InspireME: Empathy is about finding echoes of another person in yourself.

It all looks easy until we do it ourselves, life is about appreciating the beauty in work; our work and the work of others around us and this is the skill that makes us a true human. Here’s a great story from Yaser Rafiq of ibex about a lesson in empathy and care.

“For over 15 years, I dedicated myself to the operations department at ibex. It was an exhilarating and demanding career, but the biggest obstacle I faced was recruitment. In the BPO industry, competing with industry giants requires top-notch talent and finding the right people for our team was always a challenge. I was determined to hire individuals with a perfect blend of EQ, IQ, and English fluency. After all, Pakistan ranks 3rd in the world for English-speaking population, so it should be easy, right? But my persistence often led to clashes with the recruitment team.

As someone who wasn’t part of the recruitment fraternity, I used to tease our internal teams that their job was easy. After all, we had a large pool of unemployed individuals, so filling jobs should be a breeze. However, fate had other plans, and I eventually found myself taking charge of the “easy” job when my predecessor left for an amazing opportunity elsewhere.
